The short version
Love Birds has no accounts, no ads and no trackers. Your letters live in iCloud and are shared only with your partner. We, the people who make Love Birds, can't read them. The only outside service the app uses is RevenueCat, to check whether your subscription is active.
What you put in the app
Your name, the letters you write, the birds and wax seals you pick, and when each letter was sent, landed and opened. Love Birds keeps these on your phone so the app and its widgets can show them, and in Apple's iCloud (CloudKit) in a space shared only between you and your partner. Apple stores that space under your Apple Account; we don't run a server that holds your letters.
Pairing
When you invite your partner, Love Birds makes a six-character code that lasts up to two days and is deleted once it's used. If you share an invite link, the code and your first name ride in the part of the link after the "#", which your partner's browser reads and never sends to our website.
Notifications
When your partner sends a bird, Apple's notification service tells your phone. Landing reminders and the evening nudge are scheduled on your phone.
Purchases
Subscriptions are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details. To know whether your Love Birds+ subscription is active, the app uses RevenueCat, a subscription service. RevenueCat receives a random ID the app makes up (not your name or email), your App Store purchase records for Love Birds (the plan, when it started, when it renews or ends) and basic device details such as your iOS version and country. It never receives your letters, your names or anything you write. The app shares only "subscribed until this date" with your partner, so one subscription covers you both.
What we don't do
- No advertising, and no tracking across apps or websites.
- No analytics. RevenueCat, for subscriptions, is the only outside service in the app.
- We don't sell or share your information with anyone.
This website
This website is hosted on GitHub Pages, which handles basic technical information like IP addresses to deliver the site. The site uses no cookies and no analytics.
Deleting your data
Unpairing (Settings, then Your love bird) stops sharing with your partner. Deleting Love Birds removes its data from your phone. To remove what's stored in iCloud, open Settings, tap your name, then iCloud, and manage your storage to delete Love Birds' data. Letters you've sent are kept in your partner's drawer, like real mail.
Children
Love Birds isn't meant for children under 13.
